Dragon’s Dogma 2 director Hideaki Itsuno has revealed his Arisen’s class but suggests that newbies should probably pick something simpler-

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is finally out, and if you’re a newcomer like me to this RPG sequel and are wondering what the best vocation (otherwise known as classes) for your Arisen is, don’t worry—the game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno, has you covered.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Itsuno revealed that, in his humble opinion, there are two vocations that are best suited for those who don’t have a lot of experience in Dragon’s Dogma games or RPGs in general:

“If you’re an FPS or third-person shooter player and you’ve got good aim, then the Archers could be a good match because the better you can aim, the better you will do with that kind of ranged character. I think it’ll help you get to grips with the game at the start,” Itsuno says. “Alternatively, if you’ve been p…

Astarion’s voice actor says it’d be ‘awesome’ to play the character again after Baldur’s Gate 3- ‘Live action, game … advert for grape juice, I don’t know’-

Astarion is something of a fan(ged) favourite in Baldur’s Gate 3—well-written, sympathetic, complex and, if we’re being honest, quite pretty. As part of Larian’s utter landslide of awards last year, voice actor Neil Newbon won top dog at the Game Awards for his performance. A landmark role by any metric.

As per a recent interview with BAFTA, Newbon revealed that he thought the role was going to be far more short-lived: “I got asked to come in for a demo, for a vampire character which I thought was a bad guy [and] was going to be killed off immediately”.

Watch On

It was only until Larian had signed off on the character that Newbon discovered he’d be in work for a while: “They told me it was an actual companion character, and it’d probably be about a year’s worth of work…

Rust dev is bored of paying Unity ‘$500k a year’ to fix its engine and promises that his Garry’s Mod successor won’t hoodwink devs with fees-

If you can cast your mind back to around this time last year, you might remember Garry Newman—him off of Garry’s Mod, and founder of Facepunch Studios—announcing that “Unity can get fucked” in the wake of sudden, badly thought out changes to the engine’s pricing scheme that would have seen devs fork over fees on a per-install basis once certain “fee thresholds” were met.

Unity eventually walked back the most egregious aspects of those changes, but it’s probably not surprising that Newman is more committed than ever to his kinda-sorta Garry’s Mod sequel/brand new engine s&box, which has been in the works for years now. In fact, Newman spoke a bit about his vision for the engine in a recent dev blog.

“I don’t want to pay Unity $500k every year so I can…

Researchers have figured out how to hack a wireless charger to fry your phone and heat objects around it to 280°C, so that’s just wonderful-

Like many, I keep a wireless charger next to my bed to charge my phone overnight. Also like many, I am consistently amazed by the fact that wonderful, device-charging electricity can safely pass between the bottom plate, through my phone case and into the device itself in a safe and efficient manner. Well, mostly safe.

A team of researchers (it’s always a team of researchers, isn’t it) have managed to develop a new set of attacks that can manipulate a wireless charger to fry your precious mobile device to death, or even start heating up objects nearby to massive temperatures. Bully.

The set of attacks have been given the ironically cool moniker “VoltSchemer”, and the methodology used is both highly innovative and slightly terrifying (via Bleeping Computer). Essentially…

Runescape is increasing its membership subscription costs, and players aren’t happy- ‘Inflation my a–‘-

Earlier this week, Runescape developer Jagex announced upcoming pricing increases for Runescape membership costs. On September 27, 2024, the price of a membership subscription will increase from $12.49 USD per month to $13.99 USD per month. A premier 12 month subscription, which includes additional in-game bonuses for subscribing for an entire year at once, will increase in price from $79.99 USD annually to $99.48 USD annually.

Players currently subscribed on monthly or 6-month intervals will be able to continue paying their current “Grandfather Rate” for as long as they maintain their subscription. The Grandfather Rate is unavailable for players with annual premium memberships.

Jagex defended the price hike in its pricing change announcement, saying, “Membership pricing has…

Save over $1000 on this beefy gaming desktop with a Radeon RX 6900 XT-

Dell has an Alienware Aurora Ryzen R14 desktop deal with a Radeon RX 6900 XT for $1,699, $1000 off its regular price. It’s often a rarity that we spot a deal on exclusively AMD-powered desktops, so when one comes up, it’ll always grab our attention.

This Alienware battle station has an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU and a Radeon RX 6900 XT GPU combo with 32GB of DDR4 RAM. It’s a solid PC if you’re looking to top out at 1440p on high settings but also want to give 4K gaming a shot.

Radeon RX 6900 XT sits between the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 in terms of performance but has more power efficiency and easier overclocking. Our biggest problem with the GPU is its mediocre ray tracing performance, which felt overpriced at launch. Thankfully with this big of a discount, that’s …

Stop exaggerating about AI, US government warns tech companies-

A post on the FTC’s Business Blog with the tile Keep your AI claims in check offers a warning to companies working in AI. It’s a politely worded, business-friendly note from a lawyer at the USA’s top trade regulator. The warning? When it comes to making claims, they need to check themselves before they wreck themselves.

The FTC acknowledges that artificial intelligence or AI has no fixed meaning in tech. It’s nothing but marketing. That said, the FTC goes on to warn tech companies they need to take care when exaggerating their product’s capabilities, ensure they’re not saying it’s better than a non-AI product, and be sure that they’re aware of the risks in letting a program make calls the company will be liable for.

Oh, and they’re really clear on this one: Don’t say your pr…

Wait, there are two different games about causing large-scale mayhem in a pretend Ikea–

We learned last year about The Store is Closed, a survival game that trapped players inside an “infinite furniture store” that was quite clearly an Ikea in all but name—creator Jacob Shaw even referred to it as “an infinite Ikea game” on Reddit. The similarity was overt enough that Ikea threatened legal action, and so when we ran across Retail Royale on Steam—”a chaotic Battle Royale inside a furniture store where everything is a weapon”—our first thought was that The Store is Closed had rebranded, retooled, and come back as a battle royale game. But no: Somehow, there are now two distinct, large-scale pretend-Ikea games on the market.

Retail Royale has been in early access for a year, and actually got some attention from streamers including xQc and JFJ not long …

Walt Disney rolls over in his grave as I wishlist this M-rated Mickey Mouse FPS-

Just in time for Steamboat Willie’s upcoming induction into public domain is a new indie FPS inspired by ’30s-era Disney animation: Mouse. Developed by Polish studio Fumi Games, you might have caught a first glimpse at Mouse on TikTok, where short clips of early gameplay have earned millions of views since late April.

It’s easy to see why—Mouse’s art and animations are immediately striking in the same ways that Cuphead dazzled us with its meticulous hand-drawn look years ago. Except where Cuphead largely stayed within the bounds of its family-friendly source material, Mouse dives headfirst into hard-boiled noir darkness and ’90s FPS gore. Seeing the Disney vintage look applied to machineguns and exploding headshots feels a little wrong, but also very right.

With its bl…

Yes, For Honor is still running, and it’s free to play for a week-

Remember For Honor, Ubisoft’s vikings-vs-knights-vs-samurai multiplayer melee game? It’s been some time since we last gave it a look, but here are a couple of things about it that you might find useful today: One, yes it is still running (and has actually added a pair of additional factions, the Wu Lin and Outlanders), and two, it’s free to play for a week.

For Honor is a hell of a thing. It was revealed in 2015, seemed reasonably good when it launched in 2017, and very quickly tanked. Six months after it launched, we took an in-depth look at where it all went wrong: It wasn’t quite a eulogy but it was awfully close, noting that even though Ubisoft was making an effort to turn things around, the game had taken such a battering by that point that “it might already be too late” to s…
